The Mock-Up is stunning but looks like Apple's AppStore. Despite the fact Mark Shuttleworth wants to make Ubuntu clone of OS X he will probably include this in future release of Software Center which is not bad at all because now it's not enough good and well designed at all. I personally think our community is not lame and enough smart to not copy someone's "proven" ideas to attract more people on our side. I want to see this in future releases but I think it should be more unique. If this is version 1.0 I can't wait to see what would be version 2.0. Hope to be more Ubuntu unique. BTW great job ~fuzzynoise.
LOL man, their are a limited set of paradigms that one can put into a desktop interface. The global-menu makes sense because, as the full screen maximize clearly shows, canonical is trying to maximize the screen real estate taken by maximized apps. and the dash, well thats a creation solely of canonical. and of course the dock originated in the Common Desktop Environment (CDE)which was the De Facto standard in desktop unix/linux from 1994-1999. Canonical have done a damn good job with unity. it is unique. it isnt copied from Mac OS X.
Critique about that "Adobe CS box": White text with white background is not good idea, because it's hardly readable. Add some text-shadow, change the font color or change the background color.
Otherwise, not bad.
